Waiting List Information

The Marilyn Reed Lucia Child Care Study Center is licensed for 48 children from the ages of two to five years old.

The Center maintains two waiting lists: A UCSF list comprising student, staff and faculty, and a community list. Openings generally occur in late summer and in September. We call from the community list only when we exhaust the UCSF list in the different age groups.

Openings are dependent on the number of children leaving the Center. In order to fill a slot, there are several considerations normally in accepting children. They are as follows:

  • Space availability in age groups. (2, 3, 3.5, and 4 year olds)
  • Preference to UCSF siblings of past and present alumni
  • Full-time children have first priority. Part-time are accepted after we find a child attending opposite days.
  • Equal number of boys and girls in each group of 2, 3, 3.5, and 4 year olds.
  • It is a goal of the center to have a diverse child population that reflects the diversity of the campus.

Procedure for contacting parents when there is an opening: Contact is made by telephone to the home, work or any other phone number listed on the application. Thus, it is the responsibility of the parents to notify us of a change in phone numbers.

Once notified of an opening, a family can decide to accept, reject an opening but remain on the wait list or have their application removed. The recruiter will specify the time period in which to respond. If we do not get a response within this time period, we will assume the family is not interested and we will recruit another child.
