Looking for part-time help to take care of my son for a total of 10 hours a week. This would be an ideal job for a student looking for some additional income. I'm flexible with the start time depending on your schedule (I can do Tuesday, Thursday or Friday). My son takes two naps so there will definitely be some down time to study or read. I'm looking for someone to really engage with my son - take him on walks to the park and library and play with him. We live in lower Pacific Heights and are close to public transportation, so CDL is not required. Child care experience preferred and references required.

CARE NEEDED
seeking live-out, part-time caregiver - will consider those looking for a long-term or short-term position
HOURS/DAYS
Hours are flexible - probably a few mornings or afternoons a week with occasional evenings.
CHILD'S AGE
19 months old by the end of June
START DATE
ASAP
ADDITIONAL INFO
Looking for native Mandarin-speaking person or nanny/nannyshare/daycare to help take care of our sweet, mellow 19 month-old boy. Would involve mostly playing with him and feeding him at our place while mom takes care of newborn sister (expected July/Aug.). Or could be usual daycare/family child care arrangement where we bring him to your location. Probably part time - meaning a few mornings or afternoons a week (very flexible). Could be shared with another family. We're in Russian Hill but would consider bringing him to other locations (other family, nanny's house, etc.) in SF or possibly Berkeley area. We speak Mandarin so OK if nanny's English is not perfect...BUT it must be good enough to communicate in English in event of any emergency when we're not there. No need to drive, but must be CPR trained (or be willing to train) and TB tested and have experience with this age group. Compensation depending on arrangement/whether sharing, etc. Would be ideal job for non-working spouse of visiting student/academic, or retired person with child care experience who wants a part-time job.

ADDITIONAL INFO
I hold a Master's degree in social work and have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of child development. I have done child care with children from newborns to thirteen years old for over fifteen years. I have experience with twins as well - my last position was with three year old twins, a boy and girl. My previous position was with an eight month old baby. In addition to my child care and social work background, I worked as a preschool teacher for two years. I have also volunteered as a literacy tutor with second graders at the Bryant School, through the Jewish Coalition for Literacy. I believe that it is very important to respect children and listen to them, play with them and have fun, and also to set clear, consistent boundaries and expectations for them as well. I love doing outdoor activities with kids, as well as reading to them, doing arts and crafts projects, cooking, playing music, and singing. All the activities I do with children are developmentally and age appropriate, and geared toward the individual child's interests and abilities as well. In addition to child care, I can provide tutoring and literacy work with school-age children. I also run a small personal organizing business and can provide those services to families as well. CPR, First Aid, CDL (do not have a car), registered with TrustLine. Excellent references available upon request!

I am recommending - without any reservations - our nanny Lina for a full-time or part-time position. Lina has been watching my son full-time since he was 4 months old and he is now almost 3 and headed to preschool. She is originally from El Salvador and is loving and patient. My son asks for her on the weekends. When she arrives, he runs to her and greets her. When she leaves, he showers her with hugs and kisses. Lina is calm and peaceful in nature, and also active and resourceful, seeking out local activities (e.g. storytimes, playtimes, scheduling playdates, etc.) and making sure that all needs, physical and emotional/social, are met. She has created a little community of friends in our neighborhood for my son and he loves having friends he sees regularly. Lina speaks primarily Spanish and her English skills are limited, but she is able to get around and manage. She is health-conscious herself and cares for children with their health in mind, making sure they are well-nourished (my son loves broccoli, mostly due to Lina), active and get enough rest. She is also extremely knowledgeable about child development and health. She knows how to handle all sorts of childhood ailments, and is good about respecting and following whatever instructions you have regarding the care of your child (e.g. dietary restrictions, medication, etc.). An added bonus is that Lina helps around the house significantly. She does our laundry, takes care of everything related to the kids (their clothes, toys, etc.), unloads/loads the dishwasher and keeps things generally tidy. She also cooks for my son during the day and I've also had her prepare dinner for us from time to time. Please call me if you have any questions or want Lina's contact info. I endorse her without hesitation. She is great.

Arminda Jarra has been with our family for two and half years, and I could not imagine having a better nanny. Prior to hiring Arminda, I spoke with all four of her references. Each person called me back within 6 hours to tell me how amazing she was, and even their flattery does not do her justice. She will be leaving our family, because our son is starting pre-school this Fall. Your child will be absolutely safe under Arminda's care. She used to be an assistant RN in Peru. She knows CPR and has a wealth of medical knowledge. Arminda has a wonderful personality and is a genuinely caring and loving person. Her style is not fake, syrupy or bubbly, but rather sincere and deep. In the two and half years that Arminda has worked with us she has never been late and never missed a day. Never. She treats us with absolute respect. Arminda feels that getting a child outside is very important, and from early on she made a point of going out at least once a day. She now goes to the park daily with our son and also takes him to programs for socialization and museums for education. Once your child eats solids, Arminda will prepare lunch for him or her every day and bring it to your house. She uses a wide variety of vegetables and healthy fats and is always responsive to our food requests. Arminda enjoys playing music for our son and singing to him. Her primary language is Spanish, and we asked her to speak only Spanish with our son. We spoke English with him, and he is now bilingual, a skill we will encourage when he starts preschool. Arminda does speak English fairly well, certainly well enough to communicate clearly; she has no problem understanding us. Arminda has helped our son socialize quite well. He is kind and considerate with other children, and she has helped instill a good sense of values in him. Arminda is the kind of nanny that every nervous parent dreams of finding. She is about as close to the "Mary Poppins" concept as you will ever find. Her love and kindness will instill a sense of self-worth in a child that will last a lifetime. Arminda's phone number is 415-317-3492. Feel free to call her directly. Also, feel free to contact me if you have questions.
